sound familiar? In their win over the Philadelphia Phillies,
Duffy Lewis hit .444 and
Harry Hooper hit .350. The young kid from Baltimore,
Babe Ruth, batted .000—getting only one at-bat in
The Fall Classic. Let's keep this fun comparison going. The very
next year after their 1915 crown, the 1916
Carmine Hose won the World Series
again—being the
last time they went back-to-back. That Ruth kid fared a
little better this time—winning the 14-inning Game Two (the first
Nathan Eovaldi?). Now, as we approach 2019, Boston has a truly legitimate shot to score the first back-to-back World Series titles for the franchise in that 103-year span. Having returned most of the 2018 championship squad—sans
Joe Kelly and
Craig Kimbrel—the Red Sox can expect to be right in the thick of the 2019 playoff mix. They probably won't tally 108 wins again—after all, the 1916 team garnered "only" 91 after 101 wins in 2015. Still, we can look forward to yet another milestone if the 2019 boys can pull off another championship.
