Red Sox right-fielder, World Series Champion
and American League Most Valuable Player
Mookie Betts is the
runner-up as
Associated Press Male Athlete Of The Year For 2018. The top honor went to (pardon us while we roll our eyes)
LeBron James. The Los Angeles Laker (who did
not win a championship in 2018, by the way) got 78 total points in the balloting by U.S. editors and news directors. Betts was next in second-place with 46 total points. Finishing third was Stanley Cup Champion
Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, followed by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback
Patrick Mahomes in fourth and Triple Crown winner
Justify in fifth. I guess we knew that Justify was a guy—but that still seems a little weird. Anyway, we all know who the
real winner was—right?
