named the Red Sox as the "best team of 2018"—based on their analysis of their relative ranking to the best teams in the same sport since the year 2000. As the chart shows, Boston comes in at the top spot with an ELO rating of 1610. In their analysis,
FiveThirtyEight stated the following,
"As we noted after the Red Sox won the World Series in October, Boston’s championship squad belongs squarely in the conversation about the best teams in baseball history." The 1610 ELO rating by Boston was the highest by any baseball team this millennium—a span during which the Red Sox have captured
four World Series Championships. Boston finished a full 12 points ahead of the number two ranked team—the Houston Astros. Not surprisingly, the worst team of 2018 was the lowly Baltimore Orioles—who won just 47 games all year.
