Multiple reports indicate that—while
several teams are in on
Nathan Eovaldi—the Red Sox and Astros are positioned as
the teams most likely to land the big Texas righty. The 2018 American League Championship Series foes could
both benefit from Eovaldi's presence—either in the rotation or out of the bullpen. For the Red Sox, there is a
possibility that Eovaldi could be a replacement for
Craig Kimbrel—if, as expected—he goes elsewhere in search of a six-year deal. However, Eovaldi has expressed a preference to be a starter—and he would certainly fit in nicely
somewhere among
Chris Sale,
David Price,
Rick Porcello and
Eduardo Rodriguez. Eovaldi has
also said he would prefer to stay in Boston. His epic six-inning relief appearance in
Game Three of the
World Series has—despite the Red Sox losing that game—made him a near-legend among both teammates and fans.
