This year,
FenwayNation is inaugurating two
new awards—which will be given out whenever the Red Sox make the post-season. The awards are:
The FenwayNation Post-Season Pitcher Of The Year and
The FenwayNation Post-Season Position Player Of The Year. Starting with the pitcher award, we have named
both Joe Kelly and
Nathan Eovaldi as
co-winners for 2018. This was an extremely tough decision. Keep in mind that the awards are for the
entire post-season, not just the World Series. While Eovaldi's post-season contributions—particularly in the World Series—were
epic, it's easy to forget just how dominant Kelly was in October as well. Over 11.1 innings pitched, Kelly gave up just eight hits—striking out thirteen and walking none. Opposing batters hit just .186 off Kelly, and he gave up
just one earned run—resulting in a 0.79 ERA. Eovaldi was just as impressive. The big righty out of Texas pitched 22.1 post-season innings—striking out sixteen and walking just three batters. Opposing batters hit just .185 against Eovaldi—as he delivered an ERA of 1.61. All of Kelly's work came out of the bullpen, while Eovaldi started two games
and worked in relief (one outing in the World Series, of course, will be talked about forever). All in all, it was a pretty even body of work for both pitchers. Thus, congratulations to both for being named co-winners as the
FenwayNation Post-Season Pitchers Of The Year for 2018.
