Cora: A Healthy Pedroia Would Lead-Off Opening Day, Then Back To Mookie
According to Red Sox manager Alex Cora, if Dustin Pedroia is healthy on Opening Day 2019 in Seattle, he will hit lead-off in the Boston batting order. After that, Mookie Betts will resume his top-of-the-order status for the balance of the season. This tip-of-the-hat to The Laser Show is just another classy thing the first-year manager has done to help make this team the World Champions of baseball. The 35-year-old Pedroia was able to play just three games in the 2018 season—but over his 13-year career in Boston he has hit exactly .300, with an .806 OPS. He now has three rings as a member of the Red Sox—and was also Rookie Of the Year in 2007 and American League MVP in 2008. This acknowledgement of The Muddy Chicken's status on the team—that of a true franchise leader—is well-deserved. Good move, Alex!
