The Editors of
FenwayNation have named pitcher
Hector Velázquez as their
2018 Rookie Of The Year. The 29-year-old righty was signed as a free-agent from Navojoa of the
Mexican Pacific League in 2017—but did not pitch enough to qualify for rookie status in that season.
This season, Velázquez was valuable as a starter
and a reliever—compiling a 7-2 record and a 3.13 ERA across 85 innings of work. Velázquez spot-started eight games for Boston—and would pretty consistently deliver decent outings. For example, on September 5th—spot-starting for
David Price against the Braves—he went 4 innings, giving up just two runs in an eventual 9-8 Boston win. Congratulations, Hector, on being named FenwayNation's
2018 Rookie Player Of The Year!
