The 1912 Team The 2018 Red Sox Just Surpassed Was Pretty Darned Good
They didn't yet have Babe Ruth on the roster (that happened two years later), but the 1912 Boston Red Sox were a pretty dynamic team. Led by OF Tris Speaker (.383, 10 HRs), the 1912 World Series Champs won 105 regular season games on their way to beating the New York Giants in The Fall Classic. The rest of the outfield was pretty impressive as well: Harry Hooper and Duffy Lewis. Around the infield was: Jake Stahl (also the manager) at 1B; Steve Yerkes at 2B; Heinie Wagner at SS; Larry Gardner at 3B; and Bill Carrigan at C. Smoky Joe Wood, Buck O'Brien, Hugh Bedient, Ray Collins and Charley Hall made up the starting rotation. Hopefully, this new record-breaking squad of Carmine Hose can affix another World Series Championship banner behind home plate at Fenway Park.
