For a lot of today's game the Red Sox appeared just as lethargic as they did on Friday night—when they were pummelled by The Metropolitans, 8-0. Behind 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the old magic returned. After two were out, consecutive singles by
Steve Pearce and
Ian Kinsler set the stage for
Jackie Bradley, Jr.'s heroics. JBJ doubled off the very top of
The Green Monster (initially ruled a three-run-home run) to tie the game at three apiece. Then, after an intentional walk, the
decisive blow. Pinch-hitting
Brock Holt laced the first pitch he saw deep off the center-field wall—driving in two and providing the margin of victory in
the 5-3 win.
Rick Porcello went just five innings to pick up his 17th win on the season—giving up three runs on just two hits. Four Red Sox relievers delivered shutout performances—with
Craig Kimbrel earning his 41st save of 2018. The win—coupled with an 8-7 loss by
The Evil Ones—pushed Boston's lead in the AL East back up to 10.5 games.
The Magic Number to clinch the division now stands at just four.
