In most normal months of most normal years,
Mookie Betts would run away with FenwayNation's August
Player O' the Month. After all, the Red Sox right-fielder hit .353, with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 4 HRs, and 6 stolen bases. He slugged .618 and delivered an OPS of 1.077. Unfortunately for Mookie (unfortunate only in terms of this award), there's a guy named
J.D. Martinez on his team. Martinez had an other-worldly August—hitting .373, slugging .686 and finishing the month with a ridiculous 1.139 OPS. The Boston DH/OF also had 11 doubles to go along with seven HRs, 25 RBIs—and he even stole two bases. With
one full month to go in his inaugural season in
Carmine Hose, Martinez has delivered a .333 average, clouted 39 HRs, scored 100 runs, and knocked in 114. Thus, the editors of FenwayNation have bestowed the
August 2018 Player Of The Month award on
J.D. Martinez.
Congratulations, J.D.! You can review
