Thank you,
Dave Dombrowski. Your utter failure to improve the Red Sox bullpen at the trade deadline is paying dividends—for
other teams. Red Sox relievers wasted another terrific
David Price start—blowing a 2-0 lead—on the way to
a 6-3 defeat. In particular,
Ryan Brasier (1 ER) and
Joe Kelly (3 ERs) were the culprits in a deflating loss that reduced Boston's lead in the AL East back down to 8.5 games. This one
should have been a victory—with any semblance of a capable bullpen. The Red Sox grabbed the lead on daring base running and a monster solo blast by
Xander Bogaerts.
J.D. Martinez also had two RBIs. But it really didn't matter in the end. The Magic Number to clinch the division froze at 13.
