The once-again fading
Bronx Embalmers have acquired OF Andrew McCutchen off waivers from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for two players—INF
Abital Avelino and RHP
Juan De Paula. Amazingly, the Giants are picking up about
half of McCutchen's $2.4 million salary. The waiver claim was first reported on Thursday evening—and, after a deal was agreed upon, it became official today. The former National League Most Valuable Player will become a free agent after the 2018 season. While this move is
primarily seen as insurance against further injury woes for
Aaron Judge, McCutchen could also get some playing time against tough lefties even after Judge returns. The 31-year-old McCutchen is batting just .255 this year, with 15 HRs. In just nine total career games against the Red Sox, he's hitting just .147.
