Mookie Betts was the Red Sox highlight last night—hitting for the cycle with a dramatic home run in the 9th inning to cap the rare feat. However,
Rick Porcello regressed into his
'Ugly Ricky' mode, going just four innings and giving up
seven earned runs in
the eventual 8-5 loss. With any other pitcher on the mound, this is likely a win and a sweep of the series for Boston. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, the Red Sox had to continually struggle to respond to Porcello's crap pitching. They tied it 4-4 in the fifth—only to see Porcello cough up three runs in the bottom of the inning. In addition to Betts, the Boston offense was paced by:
Eduardo Nunez (3-4, 2 RBIs, R);
J.D. Martinez (1-4, RBI, R) and
Brock Holt (1-4, RBI). The loss cut Boston's lead in the AL East to eight games.
