The Red Sox Are Among Four Teams Still In On Orioles Reliever Zach Britton
While several reports conflict with one another, there is a rough consensus that the Red sox are—marginally, at least—still "in" on the trade negotiations for Orioles reliever Zach Britton. Most observers believe that The Evil Ones and World Series Champion Astros are the two leaders for the hurler. The Red Sox, of course, have a depleted farm system from which to deal—ironically spent in questionable deals for relievers Carson Smith and Tyler Thornburg. So, Boston is probably in the third or fourth tier in the Britton sweepstakes—competing with the Brewers for least-likely to get the 30-year-old lefty. Stay tuned, though—Dave Dombrowski may still decide to completely empty the minors for Britton (perhaps along with a player currently on the major-league roster).
