Multiple reports suggest that
the Red Sox and Astros are the top two contenders in the pursuit of Cincinnati closer
Raisel Iglesias. The 28-year-old Cuban righty is signed to a very favorable contract through the 2020 season, so the Reds will be looking for a
lot in return for him. Over four MLB seasons, Iglesias has posted a 3.06 ERA in 285.1 innings of work. Last season, he saved 28 games for a really bad
RedLegs team (68-94, .420 winning percentage) and has 15 saves so far this year for an only
slightly better Reds club (36-48, .428 winning percentage). Iglesias has also averaged ten strikeouts per innings pitched over his career. Another side benefit of this acquisition is that Iglesias could serve as a "buffer" against
Craig Kimbrel leaving Boston for free agency at the end of this season. Stay tuned.
