The Red Sox filled the gap left by the injury to
Dustin Pedroia by
trading for 36-year-old 2B Ian Kinsler. Boston sent two pitching prospects to Anaheim—RHP
Ty Buttery (#19 overall prospect in the Red Sox organization) and LHP
Williams Jerez (the #23 overall prospect). Kinsler, a four-time All-Star and Gold Glove second-baseman, is a .272 lifetime hitter—with 247 HRs and 871 RBIs in a 13-year MLB career. In 91 games this year for the Angels, Kinsler is hitting just .239 with 13 HRs. It's likely that Kinsler will be Boston's everyday second-baseman down the stretch—with both
Eduardo Nunez and
Brock Holt reverting to their more traditional utility roles.
