Nation Holds Its Collective Breath As Chris Sale Hits The 10-Day Disabled List
The Red Sox announced this afternoon that their staff ace—left-handed starter Chris Sale—has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with the alarmingly vague diagnosis of "left shoulder inflammation". The move is retroactive to July 28th—but this means Sale will miss a huge start on Thursday against The Bronx Embalmers. Lefty Brian Johnson will start in his place. If this is more than a mere "short-term period" of disability as Dave Dombrowski put it this afternoon, the Red Sox are in deep trouble—both in the race for the AL East and any prospective post-season series. This is a potentially deadly blow to the team's 2018 chances. If it's just one missed start—with the balance of the year injury-free, then it will be a blessing. If not, look out below! Stay tuned.
