Evil Ones Reportedly Shopping Failed Starter Sonny Gray In Trade Talks
Less than one year ago, The Pinstriped Posers sent three of their best prospects—James Kaprielian, Jorge Mateo, and Dustin Fowler—to the Oakland A's for Sonny Gray. Things haven't worked out too well. Over his 30 starts as a member of The Bronx Embalmers, Gray is 11-14 with a 4.69 ERA. This year, at The Concrete Bunker On 161st Street, Gray has posted a horrific 7.62 ERA. Apparently, it's making Brian Cashman think Gotham may be too big for 'Sonny Boy'. You may recall that in late June of this year, Gray lasted 2.1 innings against the Red Sox—giving up six earned runs (including a first-inning grand slam to Rafael Devers). In his five seasons with Oakland, Gray was a quite different animal—going 44-36 with a 3.42 ERA. Perhaps the blasé crowds in the Bay Area are more to Sonny's liking. Or maybe he prefers the A's green and gold clown outfits to pinstripes. Anyway, now, multiple reports suggest that The Evil Empire is looking to deal away Gray in their search for additional starter help at the trade deadline. How ironic. It couldn't happen to a finer franchise.
