Red Sox shortstop
Xander Bogaerts was
supposed to attend an autograph-signing charity event in New Jersey last Saturday—
but he never showed. Up to 200 Sox fans
did show up—paying upwards of $200 apiece—but the X-Man was nowhere to be found at the 9:30 AM event. Boston was in town to play
The Evil Ones last weekend, and the event had been planned for three months—raising funds for the
Dare To Dream Foundation—which benefits kids in Bogaerts' native Aruba. When contacted by a New Jersey newspaper for an explanation, Xander's agents (The Boras Corporation) did not offer one. This is
very strange behavior for the affable Bogaerts. As the event organizer stated,
"For one of the league's 'nicest' players, it was a huge surprise to all that he single handedly let down all of his fans this Saturday." Money was refunded to fans—some of whom lined up at 5:30 AM to see the Red Sox shortstop.
Weird.
