With Miggy's Injury, Are The Tigers The Logical Landing Spot For Hanley?
Remember Hanley Ramirez? About three weeks ago, the Red Sox summarily cut the veteran 1B/DH, who eventually cleared waivers. He is now free to be signed by any MLB team for the rest of the 2018 season at the veteran minimum (about $230,000). That has to be enticing for teams like the Detroit Tigers—who have lost Miguel Cabrera to injury for the rest of the year. For virtual peanuts, they can get a reasonable 1B replacement for Miggy—and, hey, Hanley might just catch fire! It's not like the Tigers are going anywhere this year, so a short-term rental like Ramirez would seem to be a no-brainer. The Tiger blog Motor City Bengals even sees the possibility of a hot Hanley being "flipped" to a contender at the trade deadline. Of course, in this scenario, the Tabbys would have to move pretty quickly. What the heck are they waiting for?
