It was not looking good.
Justin Verlander was cruising,
The Evil Ones were winning (and about to take over first place), and Boston had only managed two runs after six innings (both knocked in by
J.D. Martinez). Then, the seventh—and the Houston bullpen—happened.
Christian Vazquez slammed his first 2018 HR—a solo shot to knot the game at three. Then, with
Jackie Bradley, Jr. aboard after a terrific at-bat,
Andrew Benintendi hit a monster shot to the RF upper-deck and Boston
led 5-3.
Shazam! The Astros got one run closer, but the seventh had stunned them and done them in.
Craig Kimbrel closed out
the 5-4 win for his 19th save. And, perhaps just as importantly,
David Price survived one bad pitch (resulting in a two-run HR) to go six solid innings, giving up just three earned runs his sixth win of the year. The bottom line?
The Carmine Hose are still in first.
