In his first start in over a year, knuckleballer
Steven Wright made a strong case for his presence in the Red Sox starting rotation. Wright went seven brilliant innings—giving up no runs on just two hits, while striking out six and lowering his ERA to 1.57 on the year. All the offense Boston needed came in the first inning, when
J.D. Martinez launched his 20th home run of the year—a titanic blast to left-center. Boston also got multiple-hit games from:
Mitch Moreland (2-4, R);
Eduardo Nunez (2-4, RBI) and
Jackie Bradley, Jr. (2-3, now hitting an even .200).
Hector Vealzquez and
Brandon Workman each worked a scoreless inning in relief. Boston maintained its one-game lead over
The Evil Ones who won up in
America Lite.
Eduardo Rodriguez get the start tonight against Detroit.
