In an ironic twist, the Red Sox had news on the
two players they got from Seattle in the
Wade Miley trade. First,
Carson Smith will be lost for the year with shoulder surgery and now we find out that we finally get the 'player-to-be-named-later' in the subsequent deal that sent
Roenis Elias back to Seattle. As it turns out, Boston gets troubled 25-year-old outfield prospect
Eric Filia back from the Mariners. And, when we say
troubled we
mean troubled. Filia
has been suspended twice in his young minor-league career for using "a drug of abuse"—which most times means weed, cocaine or amphetamines. On top of
that, he was bounced out of UCLA for plagiarizing a philosophy paper. Really? He couldn't BS his way through philosophy on his own? It's unclear where in the system Filia will land. Stay tuned.
