If this was the final chance for
Drew Pomeranz to stay in the rotation—he probably got more of a stay of execution instead. The lefty pitched better than his previous three starts—meaning he actually got beyond the fourth inning—but still coughed up four runs in just five innings of work
in the eventual 4-2 loss. At
best, it was a gentleman's "C"; at
worst, he flunked out and
Steven Wright moves into his spot. The knuckleballer, by the way,
pitched three scoreless innings of relief last night. After trailing 2-0, Boston tied it up with a third-inning rally on doubles by
Jackie Bradley, Jr. and
Xander Bogaerts. But that was all the offense the Red Sox could muster against the World Series Champs—tapping out just six hits. Hopefully,
Mookie Betts will return tonight to offer some punch.
