This afternoon, the Red Sox have
officially given
Hanley Ramirez his unconditional release waivers. Any team can now sign him as a free agent—unencumbered by the $22 million vesting option for 2019 that
would have kicked-in with 302 more plate appearances under his previous contract. Any signing team will only have to pay Hanley the pro-rated MLB minimum salary for the rest of 2018—the balance of the 2018 money in the original contract would be the responsibility of the Red Sox. So,
Hanley Era II has now officially ended.
