The month of May was pretty spectacular for the Red Sox offense. Four players posted OPS numbers
over 1.0 (
Mookie Betts, 1.200;
J.D. Martinez, 1.099;
Andrew Benintendi, 1.044;
Mitch Moreland, 1.021). In any
normal month, any of those four could easily have won our
Player Of The Month honors. There were also excellent choices on the pitching side—including
Joe Kelly,
Craig Kimbrel,
Matt Barnes and
Chris Sale. But, despite missing the last five games of May due to injury, Betts is our choice. Mookie
hit an astounding .372 during May, clouting 9 HRs, knocking in 19, scoring 23, hitting 8 doubles and stealing ten bases. He had a .434 OBP and .766 slugging percentage. With this May's honors, Betts becomes
the first Red Sox player to ever win our award in back-to-back months. Our decision was very close, but we congratulate Mookie on being
FenwayNation's May 2018 Player Of The Month.
