Mike Shawaryn |
Back in early May, we alerted you to the rise of Red Sox AA pitching prospect
Mike Shawaryn. The former
University of Maryland Terrapin has made us look good—turning in
another solid start yesterday in
Portland's 4-2 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Shawaryn went six
strong innings—yielding no earned runs, walking none and fanning seven Squirrels. The right-hander now owns a 3-5 record this season with an impressive 3.12 ERA. Over 69.1 innings pitched, he has given up just 58 hits—walking 14 and striking out 66. Opposing batters are hitting just .228 against the 6'2", 200-pound Shawaryn. Once again, we urge you to keep an eye on this 23-year-old hurler—he may not get the press of other Sox pitching prospects, but he might just contribute to the big club sooner rather than later.
