If only
Giancarlo Stanton had stayed in South Beach—or gone anywhere but the Bronx, for that matter—the Red Sox would have won last night, 2-1. Instead, two solo HRs by Stanton spelled the difference in
the eventual 3-2 loss. The was
some good news in the loss. First, Boston battled back from a 2-0 deficit—capped by a thrilling RBI triple by
Mookie Betts. Second,
Drew Pomeranz looked a lot more like his 2017 version—going six solid innings and giving up just those two solo blasts and only four total hits. Both Betts and
Eduardo Nunez also had multiple hit games. But, the new villain of
The Concrete Bunker On 161st Street,
Joe Kelly, gave up the game-winning hit in the seventh. On to
Rick Porcello tonight to reclaim sole possession of first place.
