Andover (MA) High School alum and former Red Sox catcher
Ryan Hanigan has signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants. Hanigan hit a respectable .267 last year as a member of the Colorado Rockies, but was unable to hook-up with an MLB team this year until now. With
Buster Posey as the starter and
Nick Hundley as the primary back-up, it looks as if the former
Golden Warrior will serve as organizational back-up at the catcher's position. In his two seasons with the Red Sox, Hanigan hit .219 with 3 HRs and 30 RBIs. He was a more than adequate defensive backstop in his time here. During his full, 11-year MLB career, Hanigan has hit .251, with 30 HRs and 214 RBIs. His most productive stretch was during his seven-year tenure with the Cincinnati Reds—where he hit .262, with 20 HRs and 138 RBIs. We wish Ryan the best of luck in making it back to
The Show.
