Tyler Thornburg—acquired in the trade that sent
Travis Shaw to
The BrewCrew in 2016—has yet to throw a pitch in anger for the Red Sox. That's
seventeen months (December 2016) without
any pay-off for
The Carmine Hose, while Shaw has
raked as Milwaukee's starting third-baseman. So, the news that Thornburg
will be starting a rehab assignment tonight at AAA Pawtucket is a welcome sign. Since this is really Thornburg's first real game action in (literally)
years, he will likely be allowed the
full 30-day stint for his rehabilitation. So, the earliest he could help the Boston bullpen is June 1st. Don't hold your breath.
