This was fun almost from the jump. The Red Sox overwhelmed the underwhelming
Luis Severino—scoring on him five times in his five innings of work.
Mookie Betts opened the game with a double—and ended up going 4-4 with two two-baggers, a grand slam, four RBIs and five runs scored. Not a bad Tuesday night's work. Boston actually tallied
nine runs in the sixth inning on only three hits. That's
really hard to do—but against these over-rated
Pinstriped Posers, it's eminently do-able. Other major offensive contributors were:
Hanley Ramirez (2-2, 3 RBIs);
Andrew Benintendi (2-3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored);
J.D. Martinez (1-5, 2 RBIs, run scored).
Chris Sale's dominant six-inning performance was
almost an afterthought. The lefty finally got some run support (you
think?), and struck out eight while walking none. His ERA is now 1.06.
The Bronx Embalmers lived up to that nickname—dropping to 5-6 on the year and falling 4.5 games back of Boston. Oh yeah,
final score: 14-1 for a
ninth straight win.
