Once again,
Xander Bogaerts has a promising season derailed by injury. Last year, it was his hands, this year, an ankle. And, as the Red Sox ramp up their age-old rivalry with
The Bronx Embalmers tonight, an injury to their hottest player is a
serious blow.
Tzu-Wei Lin has been called up from AAA Pawtucket—but, despite his sharp defensive skills, he's no
X-Man. Manager
Alex Cora will have to be creative over the next two weeks with a merry-go-round of Lin,
Brock Holt,
Eduardo Nunez and maybe even
Blake Swihart. Given the nature of the injury (a crack in the left ankle)—along with the checkered history of the Red Sox medical staff—we could be without Bogaerts for
significantly longer than 14 days. You can pretty much
count on that. It will not be easy, and will certainly test the mettle of this team as they begin to face—for the first time this season—opponents who are
not based in Florida.
