Due to
a nasty injury to Diamondbacks starting third-baseman Jake Lamb, former Red Sox infielder
Deven Marrero may be getting some unexpected playing time. Lamb stayed in Monday's extra-inning game after sustaining the injury (and got two hits), but an MRI showed a sprain of the AC joint in his left shoulder—placing him on the 10-day disabled list. Former Red Sox bench coach (and current Arizona manager)
Torey Lovullo stated that Marrero and
Daniel Descalso will get the bulk of the starts during the period of Lamb's absence—which is as yet undetermined. Said Lovullo,
"I don't want to predict anything one way or another. I just know that he needs some time." This is obviously a great opportunity for Marrero to make an impression on his new team. We wish him the best of luck in the next few weeks.
