Clay Buchholz, who had such an up-and-down career in a Red Sox uniform,
has been assigned to the AA Northwest Arkansas affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The good news is that he is recovering well from his torn flexor tendon surgery and has been in extended Spring Training. The Royals are happy with his progress and feel he could very soon become an option for them at the major league level. If things don't work out for Buchholz with the Royals, he has an opt-out provision that he can exercise in May. In his decade with Boston (2007-2016), Buchholz went 81-61 with a 4.01 ERA. There were long stretches where he was a legitimate Cy Young contender, other times when injury seemed to turn him into a train wreck. He was on two Red Sox teams that won World Series championships (2007, 2013), so there's that. We wish Clay the best and hope to see him in
The Show this season.
