This one was defined by two guys—both named Eduardo. In just his second start back from injury,
Eduardo Rodríguez pitched brilliantly—going six solid innings, giving up just one earned run, while striking out eight.
Eduardo Núñez roped a three-run homerun into the Monster Seats to lengthen Boston's lead to 4-1 in the very first inning. From then, it was just waiting out the feeble Orioles—and taking advantage of them on alert plays like
Mookie Betts gunning down a runner on an "off-the-tarp" hit. Beyond the
'Dos Eduardos', other contributors to the win were:
Rafael Devers (3-5, 2 runs scored),
J.D. Martinez (2-4, RBI),
Tzu-Wei Lin (2-3, runs scored), and Betts (1-4, runs scored, RBI). All in all,
a nice tidy 7-3 win—something that is becoming routine in this interesting year.
