The New York Metropolitans have had some bad luck with catchers so far this year. Both
Travis d'Arnaud and
Kevin Plawecki are out for significant periods of time—one undergoing likely season-ending surgery today. And yet, surprisingly,
the Mets have not yet reached out to the Red Sox to inquire about
Blake Swihart. The Mets are relying on light-hitting veteran
Jose Lobaton and a little-known prospect named
Tomas Nido to carry the catching load. Swihart has gotten very little playing time with the Red Sox—but he
is hitting .333 over nine games. It will be interesting to see if the Mets eventually come forward with an offer for Swihart—especially considering their hot start in the NL East. Stay tuned.
