It looked dismal for the Red Sox on Sunday—as they entered the bottom of the eighth inning down 7-2 to the lowly
Devil Dogs. Moreover,
The Bronx Embalmers—coming to town on Tuesday—were up 5-0 on the Birds of Baltimore. As it turned out,
both Boston and Baltimore staged rallies to win—sinking the 5-5
Evil Ones 3.5 games behind the Red Sox for their upcoming three-game set. Today's
8-7 win by Boston was weird to the max.
Hanley Ramirez started off the inning with a single—then Boston scored all six runs in their winning rally with two outs. Hits by
Mitch Moreland (double),
Eduardo Nunez (single),
Rafael Devers (double),
Christian Vazquez (single),
Mookie Betts (single) and
Andrew Benintendi (double) put Boston ahead to stay.
Much earlier, first-time starter
Eduardo Rodriguez could only go 3.2 innings—giving up three earned runs. This win was
truly insptiational—with the only downside being the ankle injury (still being evaluated) to
Xander Bogaerts.
