In an effort to increase public and legislative support for a new baseball stadium in Pawtucket, city officials are
looking to hire a development consultant to specifically lay out plans for areas around the site. The city sees
"restaurants, shops, breweries, entertainment venues, hotels, and more" around the riverfront site for the proposed
Ballpark At Slater Mill. Officials believe that if the environs around the new park are filled with new attractions, it will help offset the public investments that need to be made in the deal. Currently, a plan is before the Rhode Island House—but observers are unclear whether that body will take action in time to stave off a move to more welcoming municipalities like Worcester, Massachusetts.
