Thario Estrada |
Every once in a while, a story arises that makes you put baseball and 'rivalries' in perspective. We obsess so much about little ticky-tack injuries to players, that when a
really serious one happens it makes you think.
Thairo Estrada, a top SS prospect in the Yankee organization,
is recovering from a gunshot wound suffered during a robbery attempt late last month in his native Venezuela. No 22-year-old kid deserves that kind of a bad break—no matter what team he plays for. Amazingly, despite the injury being to his right hip, Estrada is expected to be ready for the start of the minor-league season. He will likely begin the year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. New Yankee manager
Aaron (F.) Boone says Estrada is doing well "mentally and emotionally". Rivalries aside, we wish Thairo a
very speedy recovery.
