According to
Alex Speier of
The Boston Globe, the Red Sox offer to free-agent
J.D. Martinez was
not for five years and $125 million
but rather for five years and "around" $100 million. So, effectively, Boston is offering the potential Red Sox DH $20 million per year—
way off from the
Scott Boras range of $30 million per year (and more than five years). No wonder the two sides are in a stalemate. Most truly
neutral observers gauge the 30-year-old Martinez's annual value at between $25 and $27 million. Stay tuned!
