With all the attention being paid to the acquisition of
J.D. Martinez, the trade of OF
Bryce Brentz has kind of snuck in under the radar.
The Red Sox dealt the 29-year-old to the Pittsburgh Pirates for "cash considerations". Brentz—a first round pick by Boston back in 2010—failed to break through into the everyday lineup over the years, and spent most of last season at AAA Pawtucket. He
did lead the International League last season in HRs with 31. But, with
The Killer Bs locked into the outfield and the addition of Martinez, there really was no room for Brentz. The Red Sox have actually done him a favor—he may actually get considerable playing time in the Steel City.
