FenwayNation Poll shows that a plurality of readers (31%) think rookie 3B
Rafael Devers will be the the one Red Sox player to perform
above expectations in 2018. As the chart shows,
Tyler Thornburg (who missed all of 2017 after being acquired for
Travis Shaw) is next on the list with 19% of the votes cast.
Blake Swihart (who may be called upon to play some 2B) places third with 15%—followed by
Bryce Brentz (who could see significant time in the outfield) at 12%. Both
Carson Smith and
Steven Wright follow—tied at 8% each. Another 8% choose some other player not on the list. No votes have yet been cast for
Brock Holt or
