Linda Pizutti Henry |
In a transaction that took place last Summer—but only revealed today—the wife of Red Sox principal owner
John Henry now herself owns a piece of the team.
Linda Pizutti Henry owns an undisclosed portion of the team, and becomes the first female owner of the Red Sox since the late
Jean Yawkey. Her husband reportedly owns 40% of the team outright—so, if her share is over 10%, the family would have a
theoretical controlling interest in the team. Why this transaction has taken over a half-year to disclose is unclear. Red Sox CEO and President
Sam Kennedy had this rather obsequious comment,
"It’s an important moment for the Red Sox. It’s a great thing, one, for the Red Sox to have a woman owner, and two, she has become an absolute force in the city of Boston." Oy! The whole thing leaves a
very bad taste in our mouth.
