The Red Sox
held an arbitration hearing with star right-fielder Mookie Betts yesterday in Phoenix. Boston offered Betts $7.5 million, while the two-time All-Star is seeking $10.5 million. Unconfirmed reports (which we do not believe) suggested that the Red Sox tried to sign Betts long-term last year. An impartial arbiter will decide which side wins the case. Clearly, Mookie deserves the $10.5 million (or more, actually) as the
best position player on the ballclub. Let's hope he gets what he's asking for.
