He threw 100+MPH. For three years, he was an elite set-up guy. He was
supposed to be the heir apparent to
Jonathan Papelbon. Instead, former Red Sox pitcher
Daniel Bard—ruined by dumb tinkering by the Boston organization—
is retiring from baseball. Bard had not appeared in an MLB game in four years—wandering through the bowels of the minors for several organizations. His is a textbook case of how
not to manage a talented arm. It should have been a
lot better for Bard. What a shame. Nice going, Red Sox!
