Tyler Thorburg is
officially in the Red Sox fold for 2018—signing a one-year, non-guaranteed contract ($2.05 million). Which is nice, since he was
un-folded in all of 2017. Thornburg—intended to bolster the 'pen's set-up role—saw
literally no action during his first year in
Carmine Hose. He suffered a right shoulder impingement in Spring Training, for which he underwent surgery in June for thoracic outlet syndrome. Speaking of "outlets", the trade for Thornburg sent
Travis Shaw to
The Brew Crew—where he had a stellar season (.273, 31 HRs, 101 RBIs). Why can't
we develop third-basemen like that? Wait.
