As
Shohei Ohtani whittles down the teams that he will deign his presence with, it does seem odd that
'The Babe Ruth Of Japan' cast aside the only two teams who actually had success with the
real Babe Ruth. Mostly on his
pitching arm, the Red Sox rode a young Ruth to
three World Series Championships (1915, 1916, 1918) before infamously dealing him away to
The Evil Ones on the day after Christmas in 1919. Mostly on the
power of his bat,
The Bronx Embalmers rode Ruth to four rings
(interestingly, for all the added hoopla, just one more than he won with Boston). In any event, Ohtani reportedly wants to go to
either a West Coast and/or smaller market team. Hmm, the San Diego Padres seem to fit both criteria!
