Beleaguered Dombrowski Spinning Revisionist History
Apparently realizing that he's taking a lot of heat for his inaction this off-season, Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski is firing up the propaganda machine in response to the Yankee signing of Giancarlo Stanton. Most neutral observers—including Stanton's agents—made it clear that Boston never showed any interest in the NL MVP. Reportedly, the Red Sox never made a formal or informal offer and were left at the starting gate as Brian Cashman galloped away with the big prize. Now, Dombrowski is doling out some serious "CYA" spin on how things went down at the end, "When we called at the end, we were not on his list. So they were going somewhere else. We did all our homework on Stanton. I knew exactly where everything was, what they were looking for, dollars that were involved. Just was not where we were at that particular time." Uh-huh.
