The Red Sox announced this morning that they are
exercising the 2018 club options on both starter Chris Sale and closer Craig Kimbrel. The two pitchers had outstanding seasons in 2017—so they are incredible bargains at $12.5 million for Sale and $13 million for Kimbrel. There is another option on Sale for 2019, but Kimbrel will become a free agent at the end of the 2018 season. Sale struck out 308 batters in 2017, while Kimbrel had 35 saves.
