Mike Minor In 2017 |
According a report by
ESPN's
Buster Olney,
the Red Sox and Astros may be vying for the services of free-agent left-handed reliever Mike Minor. While Minor has a history of injuries, the 29-year-old (who turns 30 right after Christmas) had a solid "comeback" year in 2017. Pitching for the Royals, Minor went 6-6 with a
stellar 2.55 ERA. Over 77.2 innings pitched, the lefty gave up just 57 hits and struck out 88. Before last year, Minor was mostly a starter with a
roughly .500 record and an ERA slightly over 4.00. The Red Sox actually scouted Minor heavily before last year's trading deadline, but failed to pull the trigger on a deal. With
both Boston and the World Series Champions needing another lefty in the 'pen, it could be an interesting bidding process.
